The Sioux City Dental Society is pleased to welcome Stanley Malamed, one of the most respected educators in dentistry, for a full day of continuing education on Friday, February 13, 2026.
Dr. Malamed was born and raised in the Bronx, New York, and graduated from the New York University College of Dentistry in 1969. He completed a dental internship and residency in anesthesiology at Montefiore Hospital and Medical Center before serving two years in the U.S. Army Dental Corps at Ft. Knox, Kentucky.
In 1973, Dr. Malamed joined the faculty at the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry of the University of Southern California, where he currently serves as Professor of Anesthesia & Medicine. Over the course of his distinguished career, Dr. Malamed has become a global authority in local anesthesia, sedation, emergency medicine, and patient safety.
He is a Diplomate of the American Dental Board of Anesthesiology and a recipient of dentistry’s most prestigious honors, including the Heidebrink Award from the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology and the Horace Wells Award from the International Federation of Dental Anesthesia Societies.
Dr. Malamed has authored more than 140 scientific papers and 17 textbook chapters, shaping how generations of dentists approach anesthesia and medical emergencies in the dental setting.

Outside of dentistry, Dr. Malamed is an avid runner, exercise enthusiast, and lifelong fan of the New York Times crossword puzzle—completed daily since his first year of dental school.
