March 14 Program – Dental Sleep Medicine

John H. Tucker, D.M.D., Diplomate ICOI, Diplomate ABDSM

Come find out how you, your practice and your patients can benefit from this exciting new field of dentistry…Dental Sleep Medicine!

There are approximately 440 patients that are at high risk of having Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) in a general practice.  It is a well-known fact that Sleep Apnea Syndrome (SAS) has been on the rise in both men and women and is continuing to grow.  Research shows 93% of women and 82% of men with moderate SAS have not been clinically diagnosed!

29% to 83% of patients that are diagnosed with OSA are intolerant of the treatment…CPAP.  The majority of these non-tolerant patients have no idea that Oral Appliance Therapy (OAT) is a valid treatment approach for their disease.

Participants will learn a basic understanding of human sleep and how it is adversely affected by OSA as well as associated co-morbidities.  Dr. Tucker will discuss various appliance designs and their use in those patients that are intolerant to CPAP.

Come learn how you and your team can have a positive role in assisting patients to have a better quality of life!
